Sise, Philpot, Shea, Other Deaths

Albert S. Sise, Former
Personnel Director
Albert S. Sise, former director of personnel at MIT, died of a heart attack 
on October 14. He was 84. He retired from MIT in 1972. 
Mr. Sise was a 1928 graduate of Harvard and worked on developments in radio 
and radar technology. He came to MIT in 1945 as associate director of 
servomechanisms and later became director of personnel.
He was an avid Alpine skiier and had competed in more than 600 races. The 
New England portion of the US Ski Association Masters Tour was named the 
Sise Cup in his honor.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Miller Sise of Norwich, Vt.; three 
daughters, Betsy Sise of Boulder, Colo., Nancy Auseklis of Kalispell, 
Mont., and Sally Sise of Shaftsbury, Vt., and six grandchildren.

James F. Philpott
James F. Philpott, 59, a retired custodian in Physical Plant, died on 
October 3. He had worked at MIT from 1966 until his retirement in 1988. 
Mr. Philpott is survived by his wife, Eva M. Roberts Philpott of Cambridge; 
three daughters, Claire Paulding of West Medford, a staff member in 
Personnel, Janet and Karen R. Philpott of Cambridge; two sons, Raymond 
Philpott of West Medford and Taalib Mahdee of Dorchester, and nine 
grandchildren.

Warren J. Shea
A funeral Mass has been held for Warren J. Shea, 68, of Cambridge, a 
retired project machinist in mechanical engineering, who died on September 
28. Mr. Shea worked at MIT from 1952 until his retirement in 1987. He 
leaves two brothers and two sisters.

Other Deaths
Word has been received about the deaths of the following members of the 
community, about whom no further information was available.
John A. Belloste, 69, of Cambridge, a Campus Police parking attendant since 
1989, who died on June 22. He leaves three children, John A. Jr., Robert, 
and Janet Belloste.
Anthony Bergazzi has died at 84. He lived in Boston and worked in food 
services at MIT from 1949 until his retirement in 1971.
Albert Ford, 89, of Somerville, a retired service staff member in Physical 
Plant, died on September 24. He worked at MIT from 1955 until his 
retirement in 1968. He is survived by two sisters and several nieces and 
nephews.
Edward W. Hawkins, 74, a retired custodian in Physical Plant, died October 
4 in Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Hawkins worked at MIT from 1967 until his 
retirement in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Lois G. Hawkins; three 
daughters, Janet Flynn, Beverly Teel and Barbara Dorrington, and a son 
David Hawkins. 
Arthur V. Kesselhuth, 72, of Nashua, N.H., died on September 21. Mr. 
Kesselhuth was a technician at Lincoln Laboratory from 1950 until his 
retirement in 1984. He leaves his wife, Lydia Kesselhuth, a son, Robert A., 
and a granddaughter.
William J. Marshall, 54, of Bedford, a security officer at Lincoln 
Laboratory since 1979, died September 27 following a long illness.
Robert W. Mattsen, 70, formerly of Quincy, died on September 29. Mr. 
Mattsen was a houseman in McCormick Hall from 1968 until his retirement in 
1985.  He leaves a friend, James Twohig of Arlington.
Willie F. Merritt, 49, a polisher custodian in Physical Plant since 1978, 
died on September 30. He lived in Mattapan and is survived by his wife Jean 
Ramsey Merritt and two daughters, Jean and Carolyn Merritt.
