MIT team tests inexpensive ways
to bring clean water to villages in Nepal

MIT Tech Talk, May 22, 2002

Master of Engineering graduate student Hannah Sullivan takes a water sample from a well in the village of Mahilwari, assisted by a woman from the village, as curious children look on. Hannah and Heather Lukacs both worked out of Lumbini (the birthplace of Buddha) in southern Nepal and travelled to 17 surrounding villages working with "motivators" - local women who visit villages regularly to help teach hygiene and sanitation, as well as gathering information on well use and health data. Their feedback is key to eliminating water-borne illness.
