Nine Young Faculty Win NFS Honors
Nine Young Faculty
Win NSF Honors
Nine MIT assistant professors are among the 211 academic scientists and
engineers selected to receive Presidential Young Investigator Awards by
the National Science Foundation, it was announced last week.
They are:
Richard P. Binzel, EAPS.
Katherine Freese, physics.
Karen K. Gleason, the Herman P. Meissner Assistant Professor, chemical
engineering.
John P. Grotzinger, EAPS.
Mark J. Jakiela, mechanical engineering.
Peter T. Lansbury Jr., chemistry.
Eric W. McFarland, nuclear gneineering.
Steven H. Strogatz, mathematics.
Lawrence M. Wein, management.
The awards are intended to help universities attract and retain
outstanding young PhD scientists and engineers who might otherwise
pursue nonteaching careers, the NSF said. Each young investigator can
receive up to $100,000 per year for five years in a combination of
federal and matching private funds.
