Expanded Child Care to Open
AT LINCOLN LAB
Expanded Child Care Center to Open
Lincoln Laboratory's new, expanded child care center is scheduled to
open September 4, with spaces available for up to 65 infants, toddlers
and preschool-aged children.
The new center, operated by Lincoln Laboratory Children's Center, Inc.
(LINCC), will provide two-, three- and five-day full-time (8am-6pm) care
and a half-day (8am-1pm) program for preschoolers. LINCC is a private,
nonprofit, state-licensed child care organization established to serve
the needs of employees and subcontractors at Lincoln Laboratory, the MIT
community, Hanscom Air Force Base and the public.
The center will maintain low teacher/child ratios: 1:3 in the infant
program; 1:4 in the toddler program and 1:10 in the preschool program.
The primary goal of the staff is "to provide children with lots of
affectionate, physical and verbal contact in a nurturing, loving and
consistent environment," according to Carol Stokes, child care manager
at Lincoln.
The center is part of a partnership established last year between
Lincoln and the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School. The
center is located on the high school campus in Lexington, at the
intersection of Routes 2A and 128. Some 400 students in Minuteman's
construction trades division have worked on the project since its
inception.
Finishing touches are being made to the new building and during the
summer landscaping for the extensive playgrounds will be designed and
implemented.

3850.
