Printing problems?

Contact the RCCs via AIM (RCCBot) or rcc.mit.edu to report the problem. If tree-eater is out of toner or paper, or you are no longer able to print, contact tree-eater@mit.edu.

Setting up Kerberized printing on your own computer

Remember that this is not supported by IS&T. If you need help getting printing set up on your computer, contact tree-eater@mit.edu.

If you only print from Athena, this will not affect you. For those of you who already had KLP (or KLPR) installed before this school year and had set up tree-eater as a Kerberos printer, this should also not affect you.

For any operating system - QuickPrint

The least-effort way to print from your laptop to any printer (tree-eater or otherwise) is with QuickPrint:

http://quickprint.mit.edu/
Click "Install a network printer" and follow the instructions. (Alternately, you can just upload PDFs and print them.) QuickPrint is a SIPB service, not an IS&T service; for help, contact quickprint@mit.edu.

For Windows XP

You'll first need to download Kerberos (if you don't have it) from

https://wserv.mit.edu/fcgi-bin/softcount?product=mit/win/mit-kfw-3.2.2.msi
install it, reboot for good measure, and then install KLP from
https://wserv.mit.edu/fcgi-bin/softcount?product=mit/win/mit-klp-1.0.1.msi
When you have both of them installed, follow the directions at
http://itinfo.mit.edu/article?id=6250
to set up the printer "tree-eater" (or "tree-eater2" for double-sided printing) as an HP LaserJet 8150 PS.

For PowerPC Mac (PowerBook, nonrecent iMac, etc.)

You can download KLPR from

http://web.mit.edu/klpr-osx/www/
Click "Download" on the left. You'll need the Kerberos Extras if you don't have them; the link is on that page, as is a link to installation instructions.

For Intel Mac (any MacBook, recent iMac, etc.) or Windows Vista

There is no software for Kerberized printing for Intel Macs or Windows Vista, due to the way that Microsoft and Apple (independently) changed their printing/Kerberos support in the operating system. You can use QuickPrint or print from the clusters.

Feel free to ask tree-eater@mit.edu for help getting printing set up, or find Geoffrey Thomas in room 511.
