Netscape 4 is no longer supported at MIT. Download a current browser from MIT. If you want to continue using Netscape 4, you should turn off style sheets. (go to th edit menu, pick preferences, select advanced, and uncheck "Enable Style Sheets")
A new analog-to-digital video converter has been installed in the NMC, allowing for digitization of VHS tapes. Upgrades for Adobe software are expected in the immediate future, and Athena-enabled logins and home directories will be enabled on the NMC machines soon.
The media converter has been replaced and installed.
The NMC server is currently down. This means that you must log in to machines using a temporary access account. The temporary login info is written on the white board at the back of the room. You may experience an occasional long wait while trying to log in.
Another theft at the NMC. The media converter was stolen last week. As a result of this theft, the VCR and media converter are not available. A message will be posted here when the equipment has been replaced.
The lock on the door to the NMC has been replaced
with one if the
athena cluster style locks and the combo updated
to be the same as the
athena cluster combo.
Type "tellme nmccombo" at an Athena prompt to get the new combo.
Until further notice, there will be no printer in the NMC. If you need to print something, we suggest you save the file to a disk and bring it somewhere like CopyTech. If you save your work as a PDF you should have no trouble printing it from another printer, if software is a concern as most computers have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.
The VCR and Amplifier have been stolen from the NMC. We will work to replace this equipment as soon as we can. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The NMC has upgraded to the Mac OS 10.2 platform. We can not guarantee all previously installed applications under OS 9.x will operate properly under the "classic mode" in OS 10.2. However, all of the "staple" applications, such as Final Cut Pro 3.0, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash and many more have been updated for OS 10.2 compliance. Additionally, we have added a new scanner for scanning transparencies or slides under OS 10.2.
Also, new equipment is available in the room. Four new G4 Macs, with DVD-R/CD-R capabilities are now present, for storage and transfers of large files, such as video. No media is present, so if you wish to burn CDs, please bring your own blanks!
Due to theft, there is no longer a projector in the NMC. If you require a projector for your class or demonstration, please contact nmc-consult@mit.edu one week in advance of your session so we can obtain a projector for you.
