Nikhil Padhye

My research interests include applied and computational mechanics of solids, mechanics of materials, numerical schemes for fluid flow through porous media, and numerical optimization. I completed my PhD from MIT in Mechanical Engineering while working on topics related to polymer mechanics, plasticity, bonding, and related applied and computational mechanics topics.

My research was supported by Novartis-MIT Center for Continuous Manufacturing ($65 Million USD, 10-year long project aimed at transforming pharmaceutical manufacturing) under leadership of Professor Bernhardt L. Trout. Professor David M. Parks primarily supervised my work on topics related to mechanics of materials, and we proposed the new phenomenon of sub-Tg, solid-state, plasticity-induced bonding in polymers which served as a central theme for my doctoral thesis.
