SENIOR REACTOR OPERATOR, Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, to perform reactor startups and shutdowns; provide control room coverage; perform diagnostic tests, calibrations, refueling operations, and decontamination procedures; prepare samples for irradiation; package and ship radioactive samples; and perform safety reviews and analyses of reactor system modifications and experiments. Will train to become a shift supervisor to oversee the duties listed above and routine reactor operations and assist with various special reactor and experimental projects. Will adhere to all radiation protection measures and exercise sound radiological control judgment while working in areas containing radioactive materials, and participate in the annual requalification program for licensed personnel.

REQUIREMENTS: licensure by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission or ability obtain a license within one year of hire, a high school diploma or GED, either two years of technical college or Navy nuclear education, and U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status. Must be responsible, punctual, eighteen years or older, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Seek individual who is strongly motivated to advance to senior level position if necessary. A background in physics and chemistry preferred, as is at least one year of additional experience working with either nuclear reactor mechanical or electrical systems. MIT-00007940-5

The work schedule will be Saturday through Wednesday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., with possible evening and night duty.

STUDENT REACTOR OPERATOR, to perform reactor startups and shutdowns; provide control room coverage; maintain reactor instrumentation and equipment; perform diagnostic tests and calibrations, refueling operations, decontamination and shipping of industrial components; conduct reactor tours. Will work in areas containing radioactive materials, adhere to all radiation protection measures and exercise sound radiological control judgment, and participate in the annual requalification program for licensed personnel.

Requirements: licensure by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, current MIT enrollment, and U.S. citizenship, permanent resident, or student visa status. Must be responsible, punctual, 18 years or older, and able to work effectively as part of a team and to think and work independently. Work full time during summers and part time during semesters through your senior year.
