In-Core
Experiments (ICE Group)
The In-Core Experiments (ICE) group performs a variety of corrosion, chemistry, and materials-related experiments in pressurized water reactor (PWR), boiling water reactor (BWR), and other environments. They bring many years of experience to MIT-NRL and their recent achievements are below:
Attributes of the PWR/BWR simulation experiments include:
- Wide latitude to alter heat fluxes and flow rates;
- Controlled boiling and steam/water separation;
- Material and Water Chemistry flexibility;
- Thermal isolation of the facilities from current reactor operating conditions;
- Data Acquisition systems for in-line monitoring of temperature, pressure and water chemistry; and
- Customized chemical, electrochemical and electromechanical measurements.
