1. Preparation

There are three primary methods to prepare nanofluids:

    1. Dispersion of nanoparticles in powder form
    2. Nanoparticle synthesis by chemical precipitation
    3. Nanoparticle synthesis by organic reduction

Stability of the dispersion can be ensured by:

    1. Controlling the surface charge of the nanoparticles through control of the pH. This method is useful with oxide nanoparticles.
    2. Adding a surfactant.

Nanofluids can also be purchased directly from commercial manufacturers, but quality varies considerably.
