Vice Chancellor & Dean for Graduate Education, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Steven R. Lerman

The Dean for Graduate Education is responsible for the Office of the Dean, the International Students Office, and the Graduate Student Council, and reports to the Chancellor. The Dean serves on MIT's Academic Council and the faculty's Committee on Graduate Programs, which has oversight of graduate education at MIT.

The Office of the Dean for Graduate Education (ODGE) advocates broadly for graduate education and student life at MIT. ODGE develops and administers policies and procedures in conjunction with the Committee on Graduate Programs; creates and sustains programs to enhance graduate community and diversity; and complements the efforts of academic departments, including providing central funding for graduate students.

In this role, ODGE serves as the local fiscal agent for a wide variety of federal, foundation, and corporate sources of graduate financial support. The Dean also stewards a broad range of endowed funds in support of graduate tuition and stipends, and manages the appropriate disposition of those resources.

Recently appointed as Vice Chancellor, Dean Lerman also serves as the Chancellor's chief deputy and works to develop strategic initiatives across the units of ODGE, the Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Education, and the Division for Student Life.
