4.4 Karst Soil

In many karst regions, certain types of residual soil deposits form as a result of the corrosive weathering. The boundary between soil and underlying rock is sharp. Two of the important soils include the following:

Terra Rosa - This soil is a dense, acidic clay with a high iron content which produces a red color.
Rendzina - This soil is dark, alkaline, shallow, and loamy with a high infiltration rate.
