8.3.4 Plug Volcano

A plug volcano or plug dome is a volcanic dome characterized by an upheaved, consolidated mass filling the conduit. A plug volcano is generally a bun-shaped protrusion of glassy lava, which was originally highly viscous and that congealed through many individual flows on top of the volcanic vent. Plug volcanoes sometimes exist in previous crater locations.
