  • $9.2 million to renew the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation Investigatorships in Marine Microbiology at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

  • $1,156,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for postdoctoral fellowships in the humanities and the humanistic social sciences.

  • $378,000 for two grants from The Pew Charitable Trusts for survey research on voter experiences with the nation's voting systems.

  • $400,000 from Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to the MIT Energy Initiative for "The MIT Study of the Future of Solar Energy."

  • $2 million over two years from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to enable researchers at the MIT Industrial Performance Center to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the energy technology innovation system in the United States.

  • $250,000 from the Rockefeller Foundation toward the costs of the summer 2008 International Development Design summit held in Cambridge, Massachusetts that seeks to create technologies for developing countries using open models of innovation.

  • $290,000 from the Henry Luce Foundation for two, two-year Clare Booth Luce Postdoctoral Fellowships for Women in Energy.

  • $905,600 from the Carnegie Corporation of New York in support of the phase two of the iLabs project, which brings access to online laboratories to universities in three sub-Saharan countries: Nigeria, Uganda, and Tanzania.

  • $226,000 over three years from the Davis Educational Foundation to support StarBiochem, an application designed to allow users to understand the structure and function of molecules and explore fundamental biological research concepts.

  • $120,000 from the Edwin S Webster Foundation to support the Mentor Advocate Partnership Program in the Office of Minority Education (OME).
