Description

The Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies (CARET) at the University of Cambridge works on shaping the future of technology-enabled learning. CARET's eLearning Systems project is developing web-based tools using open standards and open-source products. Such tools will facilitate the discovery and reuse of content, as well as the interoperability of e-learning resources at different institutions.

The O.K.I. Role

The eLearning Systems project works with O.K.I. and the IMS Global Learning Consortium to understand how granular content is assembled, reused, and tracked within a learning environment, and how the systems managing this content authenticate users and control access to each learning object in the environment.

The existing O.K.I. Service Interface Definitions enable the use of authentication and authorization services provided by any system that supports O.K.I., regardless of whether those services are provided by an LDAP server, an NT domain server, or Kerberos.
