Description

The CompreHensive CollaborativE Framework (CHEF) project at the University of Michigan provides students and faculty members with an online educational and research environment organized around their own communities, research projects, and courses. Each individual assembles a personal work space from a set of course sites, research spaces, and personal portals. Individuals then share content and tools across work spaces, crossing the boundaries of research projects and courses.

The CHEF project has created a demo in conjunction with Jetspeed, an open source implementation of an enterprise information portal. The demo has early implementations of file hosting, chat, scheduling, event tracking, and security and user control services.

The O.K.I. Role

Michigan contributes its extensive experience in designing and implementing learning technology to O.K.I. and adopts new O.K.I. Service Interface Definitions as they become available. The CHEF project allows new tools to be developed and made available to users at any time, providing they meet O.K.I.'s interoperability requirements.
