Stanford University's CourseWork is
a course management system that offers a collection of tools for developing
and displaying the components of a course Website. Instructors choose the
components — announcements, on-line readings, a dynamic syllabus
and schedule, on-line assignments and quizzes, a discussion forum for students,
and a grade book — that support their courses.
The O.K.I. Role
Stanford joined with MIT and other leading institutions
in the Open Knowledge Initiative to create, test, and distribute open source
educational software. As a deliverable of O.K.I.'s first phase, open source
code for CourseWork will made available to software developers and vendors
to encourage swift adoption of the O.K.I. architecture.
