Description
With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Tufts
University is creating the Visual
Understanding Environment (VUE), a concept mapping tool that enables
instructors and learners to visually structure digital information. VUE
provides instructors a visual interface for organizing digital assets from
the Tufts digital library in learning content maps, and provides learners
the ability to rearrange content maps or add their own content and relationship
nodes. In this way, VUE accommodates individual teaching and learning styles
as well as provides a mechanism for learning and knowledge assessment.
The O.K.I. Role
O.K.I. Service Interface Definitions provide a way for
researchers to develop technology and run experiments without having to
simulate an entire learning and library environment themselves, or to run
the risk of destabilizing a the educational infrastructure in use by thousands
of students.
