Layered Approach

The O.K.I. Architecture defines a clean set of boundaries between the various service layers that support learning applications. This approach creates three benefits:

Benefits

Packages Functionality for Use in a Broad Array of Educational Applications

O.K.I. creates a "tool-kit" of services needed for educational applications, to be mixed and matched to cover the full range of programming needs.

Allows Efficient and Scalable Use of Shared Services

Any number of applications may use the same common services within the O.K.I. architecture. There's no need to re-invent common services - such as authentication or authorization - for different applications.

Consolidates Services that are Needed for Simple Integration With IT Infrastructure

The O.K.I. lower layers are a distillation of most applications' common requirements from IT and data infrastructure, they're designed to plug into existing institutional infrastructure.
