Athena Release Notes

Major new releases of the Athena system occur every year in the early summer, to minimize inconvenience to Athena users (summer is the time of lowest usage). Major releases often involve changes to the operating system or other essential system software.

Minor releases can occur more frequently (as often as once a month), and do not involve significant changes to the system functionality (i.e., minor releases do not typically involve user-visible changes, although they may make significant fixes to essential software -- as with bug fixes). Minor releases are often called "patch releases", since they typically make changes to the system by applying corrections ("patches") to existing software rather by than recompiling the underlying code.

Release notes, which are oriented toward end-users rather than high-level programmers or hackers, are created only for major releases.

The Athena Consultants also maintain stock answers releated to the most recent release.
