Policies
Grant proposals submitted by student groups must include a narrative and a budget, and must be no longer than three pages total. The proposal narrative must include the following elements:
- The name, description and composition of the student organization
- A description of the event or activity for which funding is sought (what you expect to be doing)
- Names of the students who are organizing and participating in the activity
- Date on which funding is needed (please allow a minimum of two weeks)
- Dates and times of the event (if traveling, provide destination, departure and expected return dates)
- An explanation as to how the activity contributes to the OME mission.
The budget should include:
- An itemized list of expenses
- The sources of funds solicited, and the status of each request
The OME will review the proposal and respond within two weeks of proposal receipt. (Please note: we will not honor requests for events or activities that fall within two weeks of proposal receipt.)
If funded, the OME requests three written responses: a summary of the event, a description of how MIT has benefited from the event, and a plan which describes how your organization intends to apply or implement what it has learned. The report is to be presented to the OME within two weeks after the activity. Failure to submit a report will penalize the student organization from being awarded another OME grant for one academic year.
Grant proposals should be sent to ome@mit.edu, or dropped off at the Office of Minority Education (room 4-113).
