Subject: Scope statement as presented 2/1 to development meeting From: cfields@MIT.EDU Date: Wed, 1 Feb 1995 18:20:29 -0500 To: orange@MIT.EDU Definitions product: any internally developed code, documentation, procedure, etc., that is released for internal (development) or wider use, including both new work and changes or bug fixes to existing work. Motivation Current development practices are relatively random and unstructured, resulting in inefficiencies, messiness, and group image problems, as well as products not adequately defined, maintainable, supported or documented. Deliverables A document detailing a scalable development process for supportable products, starting with the requirements stage for the product and ending with its release. A plan for the implementation, maintenance, and user support of that process, including a description of the foundations required for its proper function and a list of other processes that will need to be defined to round out support for the entire product lifecycle. Success Criteria Will be willingly applied by development staff, foster better knowledge distribution and communication, and alleviate the problems motivating its development.
