John D.C. Little

John D.C. Little is an Institute Professor at MIT, where he teaches and does research in marketing at the Sloan School. He has also done research in optimization, queuing, and traffic signal control. In queuing he is known for "Little's law." Professor Little received an SB in physics in 1948 and a PhD in physics and OR in 1955, both from MIT. He taught at Case Western Reserve from 1957-62 and since then at MIT. Among his honors, Professor Little has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering. He has also been president of both ORSA and TIMS and, following their merger, the first president of INFORMS.
