Tom Cook

Tom Cook is a Senior Counselor to McKinsey & Company, Inc., focusing on strategy and operational performance improvement in transportation companies. In addition, he works with other industries to leverage IT and decision support to create competitive advantage. Prior to joining McKinsey, Tom developed large-scale information systems for Ling Temco Vought, Inc., taught operations research and computer science at both graduate and undergraduate levels for the University of Tulsa and Boston University and consulted with Arthur Young and Company. During the last 17 years, Tom has worked for AMR starting in the capacity of Director of Operations Research for American Airlines. Tom concluded his career at AMR as President of Sabre Technology Solutions, a billion-dollar information technology services business. During his tenure at AMR, Tom was responsible for internal consulting activities for all AMR business units including American Airlines. Activities included:

Tom holds a doctorate in operations research from the University of Texas at Austin, a masteršs degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University, and a bacheloršs degree in mathematics from Grinnell College.

He has co-authored two books, published numerous papers in scholarly journals, and lectured at many universities, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UCLA, Stanford, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Texas, Rice, Duke, and Wharton. Tom was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering and cited for his "leadership in advancing operations research and decision-support technologies within the transportation industry." He is the past president of The Institute of Management Sciences as well as the Airline Group of the International Federation of Operations Research Societies (AGIFORS).
