Dick Larson

Dr. Larson received his Ph.D. from M.I.T. where he is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of CAES, the Center for Advanced Educational Services.

Prior to CAES Dr. Larson served as CoDirector of the MIT Operations Research Center for over 15 years. He is co-author, with Amedeo Odoni, of a textbook, Urban Operations Research, published by Prentice Hall, 1981. He is author, co-author or editor of five other books and author of over 70 scientific articles, primarily in the fields of emergency response systems, technology-enabled education, queueing and logistics. His first book, Urban Police Patrol Analysis (MIT Press, 1972), was awarded the Lanchester Prize of the Operations Research Society of America (ORSA). In 1993-94 he served as President of ORSA. He is internationally known for his work in applied operations research, with invited educational programs given by Dr. Larson in Denmark, Italy, Mexico, Chile and Venezuela. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Larson is cofounder and Chairman of Queues Enforth Development (Q.E.D.), a Cambridge, MA based software and consulting firm. With Q.E.D. Dr. Larson has undertaken major projects with Citibank, BOC, American Airlines, Actmedia/Turner Broadcasting, the U.S. Postal Service, the City of New York, Jenny Craig, Diebold, and other firms and organizations.
