BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

 

 

Professor Laurent El Ghaoui

 

 

Laurent El Ghaoui is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Masters' degree from Ecole Polytechnique (France) in 1985 and his PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University in 1990. He taught at Ecole Nationale Superieure de Techniques Avancees and Ecole Polytechnique in France before joining the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley in 1999.

 

He received the bronze Medal of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in 1998, the NSF Career Award in 2000 and the award from the Okawa foundation for Information and Telecommunications in 2001. He was an Associate Editor of the SIAM Journal of Matrix Analysis and its Applications until December 2001. His research interests involve optimization with uncertain data, robust statistics, robust control, data mining, air traffic management and circuit design. He has published over 80 papers and two books, "Linear Matrix Inequalities in Systems and Control" (with S. Boyd, V. Balakrishnan and E. Feron, SIAM, 1994) and "Recent Advances in Linear Matrix Inequalities in Control" (Edited book with S. Niculescu, SIAM, 1999).
