BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Professor David Shomys
David Shmoys obtained his PhD in Computer Science
in 1984 from the
University of California at Berkeley,
and is currently a Professor in the School of Operations Research and
Industrial Engineering and the Department of Computer Science at Cornell
University. Prior to joining the faculty at Cornell, he was on the faculty in
the Department of Mathematics at MIT (and a member of the ORC), and was a
post-doctoral fellow at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in
Berkeley, and at Harvard University. His research interests are in
combinatorial optimization, and the design and analysis of algorithms, with
particular interests in scheduling, location models, and even computational
biology.
He is a co-editor of the
book, The Traveling Salesman Problem, and on the editorial board of several
journals, including Mathematics of Operations Research, Mathematical
Programming, and the SIAM Journals of Computing and Discrete Mathematics.
