TITLE

Operations Research and Homeland Security: From Models to Implementation

ABSTRACT

We give a broad overview of our research in two areas of homeland security: bioterrorism (preparedness and response to a smallpox attack, an airborne anthrax attack, and an attack on the food supply; decontamination after an anthrax attack) and border control (preventing nuclear weapons from entering the country on a shipping container, preventing nuclear weapons from entering a city, and using biometrics to prevent terrorists from entering the country). We focus on the modeling, the policy recommendations and the implementation of these recommendations.
