BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

 

 

Professor Van Roy

                                   

 

Ben Van Roy is an Assistant Professor at Stanford University, holding half-time appointments with MS&E and EE, and a courtesy appointment with CS. He has also served as the VP of R&D and a Director of Enuvis (now part of SiRF Technology), a company he co-founded to develop high-sensitivity GPS receiver technology, and as a research scientist at the Unica Corporation, a provider of enterprise marketing management solutions. He received the SB (1993) in CS and the SM (1995) and Ph.D (1998) in EECS from MIT.

 

He has been a recipient of the MIT George C. Newton Undergraduate Laboratory Project Award, the MIT Morris J. Levin Master's Thesis Award, the MIT George M. Sprowls PhD Thesis Award, the NSF CAREER Award, and the Stanford Tau Beta Pi Award for Undergraduate Teaching. He serves on the editorial boards of Machine Learning and Mathematics of Operations Research and has served on the program and organizing committees of the NIPS Conference.
