Professor Jorge Vera graduated as a Mathematical Engineer at the
University of Chile in Santiago, Chile in 1986 and obtained a Ph.D.
in Operations Research from Cornell University in 1992. He is currently
in the faculty of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
of the School of Engineering at the Catholic University of Chile.
His research and teaching has been in the area of Operations Research
and Operations Management, both at the undergraduate and graduate
level, as well as in executive education. He has an special interest
in the use of Mathematical Models to aid decision making in industry.
His research interests has been on understanding factors and conditioning
measures which affect sensitivity and robustness of the solutions
provided by optimization models, particularly those used in real
decisions, as well as complexity of algorithms. He has developed
applied research and consulting for the forest industry and for
the wine industry in Chile, among other areas, and his current
research focuses on the use of Robust Optimization methodologies
in Supply Chain problems in those application areas.
