BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Jan A. Van Mieghem

Jan Albert Van Mieghem is the Harold L. Stuart Distinguished Professor of Managerial Economics and Professor of Operations Management at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He also serves as the chair of the Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences (MEDS) department. He received a Ph.D. in business (1995) and M.S. in electrical engineering (1991) from Stanford University and a burgerlijk ingenieur degree (MS in EE; 1989) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. His research studies service and supply chain operations along two dimensions: operations strategy and economics (capacity investment, network design, sourcing and pricing strategies) as well as optimal execution and control of processing networks; c.f., www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/faculty/VanMieghem. He is co-author of the textbook Managing Business Process Flows: Principles of Operations Management (Prentice Hall 1999, 2006) and author of Operations Strategy: Principles and Practice (Dynamic Ideas 2007). He has served as area editor for Operations Research, senior editor of M&SOM, and associate editor of Management Science.
