BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Ward Whitt

For more than 40 years, Ward has conducted research on queueing models and their application to communication, computer, manufacturing and service systems. After completing his PhD in OR from Cornell in 1969, he spent 8 years at Yale and 25 years at AT&T. In 2002 Ward joined the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at Columbia. He has served on the editorial boards of INFORMS and applied probability journals and is currently Advisory Editor for Operations Research and Mathematics of Operations Research. His recent research has focused on large-scale service systems, aiming to understand the performance impact of time-varying arrival rates, customer abandonment and non-exponential distributions.
