Nathan Kallus is a PhD Candidate at the Operations Research Center at MIT and an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. His research interests include data-driven decision-making, statistical inference and experimental design, and in general the analytical capacities and challenges of unstructured and large-scale data. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering with Highest Honors and a B.A. in Mathematics with Highest Distinction in General Scholarship from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009.

 

Vishal Gupta is a 5th year PhD Candidate at the Operations Research Center at MIT. He earned his BA in Mathematics and Philosophy from Yale University in 2004, graduating Magna Cum Laude with honors. He completed Part III of the Mathematics Tripos at the University of Cambridge with distinction in 2005 as part of the Paul Mellon Graduate Fellowship. Before coming to MIT, Vishal spent 4 years working in Quantitative Analytics for Barclays Capital with particular emphasis in commodities modeling, derivatives pricing and risk management.

 

In 2013, Nathan and Vishal were awarded the Best Student Paper Award of the Operations Research Center for their paper "Robust SAA" and were finalists in the INFORMS Nicholson Best Student Paper Competition for their paper "Data-Driven Robust Optimization".
