BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Sebastian Pokutta
Sebastian Pokutta is the Coca-Cola Assistant Professor in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. He received both his diploma and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. He was a postdoctoral researcher and visiting lecturer at MIT, worked for IBM ILOG, and Krall Demmel Baumgarten. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. He received the NSF CAREER Award (2015), the Coca-Cola Early Career Professorship (2014), the European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists Best Paper Award (2014), the Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC) Best Paper Award (2012), the Energy Finance Best Paper Award (2010), and the outstanding thesis award of the University of Duisburg-Essen (2006). Pokutta's primary interest is at the intersection of optimization and machine learning, exploring the limits of current approaches as well as applying analytics methodology in real-world applications. Application areas include supply chain management, finance, cyber-physical systems, healthcare, and predictive analytics. To date, Pokutta has successfully deployed analytics methodology in 20+ real-world projects.
