ORC Conferences

The Operations Research Center (ORC) at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology announces a new tradition of an annual conference during May of
every year, motivated by significant problems of society. The purpose of the
conference is to initiate a new scientific dialog in the topic of the
conference, present new approaches and results, and overall improve the
state of the art in the chosen topic.

Conference 08

OR and the Internet

The development of the internet is one of the major developments in the latter
part of the twentieth century. It has had a profound impact on people's lives as
well as business. Global major companies like Ebay, Amazon, Yahoo and Google
have emerged.

From questions on bandwidth and resource allocation, internet routing and
congestion, network design, pricing, online auctions, optimization of ad placement,
search algorithms, among many others, Operations Research methods are
beginning to have an impact in the internet.

It is the aspiration of this conference to begin the dialog among researchers and
practitioners about the potential use of methods from Operations Research in the
internet, identify new problems of importance and suggest new methods to old problems.

This annual conference is the second in the series building on a very successful conference
on Operations Research and health care.

DATE: May 30, 2008
The conference dinner will take place on May 29th

Please Visit the CONFERENCE WEBSITE for more details.
