What is involved?

 

Why?

 

Administrators serves as the liaison between researchers and OSP to identify export control issues.

 

Proposal Submission give the OSP and the administrators a basic understanding of the research project at the earliest stage.

Proposal Submission cover sheet can efficiently filter out the majority of research proposals which poses no export control concerns, and assist with identifying those that may.

 

Statement of Work

Export control issues can be more easily spotted, if a statement of work is written to provide information regarding:

· materials or equipment to be used

· third-party information or technology

· treatment of results and deliverables of the research

 

“Compartmentalizing” Research

In some cases, it may be advisable to “compartmentalize” the research, i.e., divide the Statement of Work into separate and distinct tasks that isolate the basic or fundamental research from the elements of the research project that may not be.  However, this is an issue that should first be discussed with the OSP export control staff before raising it with the researcher.
