Other Considerations

Proprietary Information

· The acceptance of proprietary information from a party outside the research project may trigger an export control issue.

Other Information

· Information that may be required for the design, development, production, manufacturing, operations, repair, maintenance or modification of equipment, if related to an export controlled item may also be export controlled.

· Schematics, flow charts, computations, configurations, test plans may contain information about equipment that is export controlled.

· Similarly, if researchers are working on the development of a piece of equipment, information about assembly, operations, repair maintenance, including handbooks and test data, or the specifications of materials being used, all contain the potential for raising an export control issue.

· Information about maintenance or upgrading equipment.

Items Not Likely to Raise an Export Control Issue

· When the discussions are focused only on the general scientific principles or systems descriptions.

· Basic marketing information and other information that is clearly in the public domain presents no problem.

· Top-level drawings or descriptions, or summaries of performance requirements, general descriptions of design capabilities or manufacturing facilities or programmatic data are not a problem.

Remember: Each project must be analyzed on its own facts.
