 Preliminary Evaluation

A preliminary evaluation which involves asking a series of threshold “critical questions” generally filters out a large majority of research proposals from further consideration.  The disclosure of information often fall within the “safe harbor” of the fundamental research, public domain or other regulatory exclusions that apply.

· Publicly Available/Public Domain Exclusion

· Fundamental Research Exclusion

Full Technology Evaluation

If a research project does NOT satisfy the above requirement, then a full technology evaluation is needed with the assistance of the research administration or legal staff.
