Chair-Elect Statement
I am honored to be nominated for the Chair-Elect position of Region I, NCURA. This fairly new position is a great opportunity to learn from the current officers of the region so as to continue the tradition of providing substantial educational forums, communication and networking to its members.
I have been an active member in Region I for the past several years. I have served as Secretary in 2003-2004, Advisory Board Member 2005-2007, Co-Chair of the Spring Meeting 2004, Leadership Development Institute (LDI) graduate Class of 2005, Chair of Volunteerism and Membership Committee (VMC), 2009 Mentor, and 2009 Co-Chair of the Regional Spring meeting in Vermont. I also have volunteered in many capacities such as discussion group facilitator, moderator, registration desk coordinator, concurrent session evaluator, etc. After filling all of these roles within our region, I now feel that I’m ready for the duties and responsibilities that come along with the Chair-Elect position.
If elected, I hope to work with all members of Region I to achieve our goals. Future educational and professional development opportunities need to be current and up-to-date, and relevant to what we do as Research Administrators. It is especially important to increase members and volunteers within our region. I believe that giving members of the region an opportunity to become involved plays a key role in the continued success of our organization. We need to see new faces and new ideas being developed so that we can continue to evolve professionally. Being part of the VMC subcommittee that helped create 26+ volunteer opportunities for Region I members provided me with the unique insight into why volunteering is important to any organizations health. Without these positions, there wouldn’t be room for more people to become involved. I also feel that recognition is important to our members. This past year as a Mentor enabled me to work one-on-one to help guide a colleague with the everyday challenges we face in research administration. This experience helped my mentee but also refreshed many things for me as well and provided a unique opportunity for me to meet a new face within the region.
Becoming the Chair-Elect would provide me with the opportunity to develop further the goals mentioned. I hope to gain your vote, and wish to work together as a team to make your Region I membership more educational and enjoyable, so that you will be proud to be a Region I member of NCURA. Thank you for your time, and your vote!
With great enthusiasm, I would welcome the opportunity to serve as Chair-Elect of NCURA Region I. I am honored to learn that my colleagues have the confidence and trust in me to serve in such an important leadership position. I am prepared to dedicate the time and energy that will be required to continue the excellent work of my predecessors. NCURA has been an integral source of my professional development, helping me to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed as a research administration professional. I would like to make sure that this source continues to be available to other members of NCURA Region I and also take part in welcoming and mentoring new members to the region as well. We are all part of a great organization in which the things we learn benefit us in our career and I look forward to having the opportunity to give back. Serving as Chair-elect of Region I would be a great way to show my enthusiasm for NCURA and afford me the chance I seek to give back significantly.
I have been a member of NCURA for over 10 years and have been very active within the region. Currently I am the Director of Sponsored Programs at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, MA. Prior to joining Olin, I served as the Director of Research Relations at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for many years.
Thank you for your support!
