Fall 2004

Thanksgiving Dinner, 25th November 2004
Best Thanksgiving ever! Some smart women thought it would be a smart idea to get all the Pakistanis together for a potluck dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Thanks to everyone who cooked and shopped we had scary-spicy cholay, chicken biryani, Nuclear Chicken Do-Piaza and White Chicken Qorma, yummy keema and fruit chaat, naans and even sewaiyyaan! Also, hanging out in a kitchen in McCormick trying to cook something half-edible was tons of fun, as was the chai (thanks to Faisal!) session afterwards! Pictures!

Chaand Raat, Saturday, 13th November 2004 -- sponsored by the GSC
Chaand Raat, great real-Pakistani company, []snacks, dessert and chai - Paksmit's contribution to the Eid Celebration at MIT. :)

Sehri, 7th November 2004 -- sponsored by the GSC
"dekhnay mai bhi achay, khaanay mai bhi achay"
banayay aisay rabeel nay anday :P"
No really, Rabeel made eggs after he was disillusioned by the sight of Fareed's black omelette. Fareed pretending to eat them didn't help. We also had chanay and halwa puri and gulab jamuns and some very pink chai. And Jess made yum smoothies. Yay! And then we made Rabeel do the dishes again. :P

Spring 2004

End-of-Term Dinner, Friday before finals, May 2004
Food from Madina Market - Omair's brilliantly bargained biryani and even real chapli kababs! This event also saw the arrival of the much-awaited cake with the Pakistani flag. Since this was a May dinner marking the end of a the MIT careers of a bunch of smart Pakistanis, the cake(s?) ended up reading "We will miss you Hooria, M, J" on it. [M and J were the other graduating seniors.]

International Fair 2004, 23rd April 2004
IFair was rained out and relocated to La Sala - but we still put up a stall and sold pakoras and samosas. Pictures!

Nighat Chaudhry Event, last Saturday of Spring Break
We hosted a performance by the renowned classical dancer, Nighat Chaudhry, to the poetry of the great Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Not only was the audience dazzled by her skill, it was also revealed to us that Asfandyar's childhood nickname was Fandoo. :P

We put up a colourfully chaotic Shaadi performance for the I-Fair in April - thanks to everyone who helped out, specially Arjun and Saba (our dulha and dulhan). We also had a nicely-decorated stall where we displayed handicrafts, images and sold pakoras and samosas.
Pictures from IFair 2003!

Pakistan Week
Paksmit put up a colourful stall displaying handicrafts, calligraphy, images of Pakistan and playing Pakistani music in Lobby 10 to celebrate the week of the 23rd of March. Someone ate all the pakoras before I got there.

Fall 2002

Salima Hashmi's Book Launch
Paksmit held a Book Launch of Salima Hashmi's "Unveiling the Visible: Lives and Works of Women Artists of Pakistan". The work, a result of three years of research, surveys the creative outputs of many generations of female artists in Pakistan. Salima Hashmi is Professor of Fine Arts at the National College of Arts, Lahore. Her exhibits have been displayed in Pakistan and the rest of the world. Also the daughter of the famous Pakistani poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Hashmi is one of the pioneers of television, theatre and puppet theatre in Pakistan. Her talk at the book launch was very entertaining and well enjoyed by all!

Annual Fall Foliage Trip, Weirs Beach, Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, 19th October 2002

Jashn-e-Azaadi Celebrations, 7th September 2002

To celebrate 55 years of our independence, PAKSMIT co-hosted a mega event with Pakistani Association of Greater Boston (PAGB) on September 07, 2002. The event was held at Wong Auditorium. Salman Ahmed of Junoon made a special appearance. A crowd of 300 enthusiastic Pakistanis charged up the atmosphere with patriotic slogans.

Junoon Concert, 28th April 2002
Junoon played to a pakced audience at the Kresge Auditorium. The sell-out concert was a huge success and was well-received by Pakistanis and non-Pakistanis on campus and in and around Boston.

SAAS Cultural Show, 6th April 2002

Paksmit Executive Committee would like to thank everyone who took part in the skit on Saturday. The skit, as we all know, was a big success. In particular, we'd like to thank:
Nida for writing, directing, acting but above all for her persistence and perseverance. Also congratulations on her wonderful singing performance.
Saif for coming as a saviour and enriching the show with his lively performance and antics
Zeeshan for his hilarious subtitles that played a major part in skit's success
Arjun for saving the show at 11th hour
Aziz & Hooria for their bold dressing and acting and dancing
Riyaz for proving the widely-held belief that cops are ghundas in uniform
Amyn & Umaima for their support, critique and encouragement
Sana for her coordination and 10-second walk rather run of fame on stage
