Discover the Many Ways to Travel Around Cambridge

The City of Cambridge has many wonderful qualities. Wherever you look you can find shops, restaurants, clubs and parks to satisfy every taste. Cambridge also has a longstanding commitment to improving the quality of life for all of its citizens. One of the city’s strongest initiatives is the reduction of the number of single-occupant vehicles, with the goal of improving both air quality and the environment.

MIT is proud to work in partnership with the City of Cambridge to promote a variety of transportation alternatives. In 2005 MIT was chosen as an employer on the list of Best Workplaces for Commuters for offering commuter benefits that employees and job seekers highly value.

This website, brought to you by the Office of Parking and Transportation, provides all the information you need to take advantage of MIT's commuting options for bicycling, carpools, vanpools, public transportation, shuttles and parking.

It is designed to help you organize a seamless commute to wherever you are planning to go at MIT. Additionally, it provides all the information you need if you live on campus or are planning to drive and park in and around the campus.

So enjoy browsing through our site, and if you have any questions, please direct them to mitparking@mit.edu.

West Garage closes for the Summer

The West Garage will close for maintenance on Monday, June 9 and is expected to re-open in mid-August.Current West Garage occasional parkers may park in the West Annex Lot or any gated parking facility in the North Area. Current regular permit holders may park in the 219 Vassar Street Lot (west side of W59), the 252 Albany Street Lot (across from NW35), or any North Area parking facility.

New parking meter rates

Starting the second week of April, 2008, parking meter rates in Harvard Square and Kendall Square will increase. One of the reasons for the new rates is to increase turnover at the parking meters. The increase should: discourage people from parking at a meter all day; allow each space to be used by multiple parkers; and allow patrons to park while shopping or visiting the businesses in the areas.

The new rates will be:

$0.25 for 15 minutes
$0.50 for 30 minutes
$0.75 for 45 minutes
$1.00 for 1 hour
$2.00 for 2 hours

Always remember to read the signs in the affected area. The time limit and hours are posted on the signs.
