WESTINGHOUSE PROVIDES HOMEOWNERS HIGHEST EFFICIENCY LEVEL AVAILABLE TODAY

23 SEER Split-System Air Conditioner at ACCA Indoor Expo

St. Louis, Mo., March 29, 2006 — Homeowners can be sure they’ll experience total home comfort through improved air quality, even temperature distribution and reduced noise levels with Westinghouse’s revolutionary 23 SEER split-system air conditioner. Developed by NORDYNE and Panasonic, the 23 SEER unit with iQ Drive™ utilizes inverter rotary technology to achieve the highest efficiency level available today. Westinghouse’s new product offering will be unveiled to the HVAC industry at the ACCA Indoor Air Expo at booth F, from March 28 to 30, in San Jose, CA.

The 23 SEER systems feature a smaller footprint, a special new display-screen thermostat and a high-grade-steel motor. With a sound-absorbing base, swept fan blade, fixed upper bearing and lower discharge and muffler, the new units also deliver decreased energy bills, better dehumidification and the lowest sound levels in the industry. Compliant with North American industry standards for POE/PVE oil and environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant, the Westinghouse 23 SEER FS4BI systems are available in 2, 3 and 4 ton capacities. A 5 ton unit will be available December 2006.

Westinghouse products carry an eight-year-warranty on all parts and a Quality Pledge to replace the entire product should its compressor fail during the first five years of ownership. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Sets New Efficiency Standards

DOE announced on April 2, 2004 that it will enforce a seasonal energy efficiency rating (SEER) standard of 13 for residential central air conditioners. This standard, which will apply to central air conditioners starting in January 2006, represents a 30 percent increase in energy efficiency compared to the 10 SEER standard that applies to models sold today. DOE had promulgated a 12 SEER standard in 2002, but earlier in year of 2004, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that the department had done so improperly.

At this point, all parties have had their day in court," Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy David Garman said. "In the interest of giving consumers and industry the regulatory certainty they need, it is time for the government and for private parties to stop litigating, and start working towards complying with the 13 SEER standard." See the DOE press release.
