Business Summary Requirements:

This is essentially an executive summary of your business idea and concept; it should give the reader a quick and complete idea of what you are proposing, Teams whose executive summaries are accepted will be notified to proceed with writing the more comprehensive business plans, on which basis the awards will be determined.

Eligibility Criteria– The business idea/concept should involve a
sufficiently new technology and/or business model (refer to entry
eligibility chart) for a new start-up or for an operating enterprise
established no more than one year before submission of entries.

The entry should fall within any of these industry categories:

•  IT/Telecom

•  Agriculture and Aquaculture

•  Life and Biosciences

•  Services

•  Process technology and Engineering

The following topics should be discussed and completed. Bullets can be used in order to be concise and to the point.

Business Summary - This is a summary of your idea, including a background of the company you are planning to form/have formed/etc and give a general idea of what your business is seeking to accomplish including descriptions of team members.

Product/Service Summary - This is an outline of the actual product or service you will be selling and an in-depth description of what it is exactly that you are proposing to market and how you are going to go about designing or developing it. Also, please respond to the following, as applicable:

  • Describe the need for your product or service - what are you bringing to the table?
  • Where are you positioned in the value chain? What is the value proposition to your customer (i.e. why would they give you money) ?
  • What is the estimated cost of your product or service?
  • What is your competitive advantage - (i.e. what will stop other competitors from entering your market, how will you be better than everyone else in the market)?

Technology/Innovation Summary - This is an outline of the technology or business innovation behind your idea, whichever is applicable. (This may also be an outline of how your service works if you are starting a service company). Basically, what we are looking for here is an idea of your competition, how you are different and what types of technology or strategy will you utilize in launching or differentiating your business.

Alternately, how is technology/innovation employed to establish your value proposition and/or competitive advantage?

Markets - This area describes your marketing approach.

  • Describe your potential customer base in terms of:
    - Income bracket
    - Where they shop/how they buy
    - Geographical location
    - Age/gender/other demographics as necessary
  • Describe the channels you will utilize in terms of where the product will be sold and how (i.e. will you have a direct sales force or sell by catalog, online, business to business, etc), and how you will make your customers aware of you.
  • Describe your pricing strategy (i.e. is this a premium product that is priced high or is it something we might be able to purchase at Price-mart?)
  • Describe any other factors that might need to be considered and/or is integral to your idea.

Financial Summary

  • What is your business model? What is your income source and how are you compensated for your product/service?
  • Describe the financial performance you expect your product or service to generate and give us some idea about your expected income and profits as applicable.

  • Margins: 1” all around
  • Font: Times New Roman – 12
  • Maximum 3 pages
  • File name: PESO–[your teamname here].doc
  • First page of business summary will be formatted as follows:

- TITLE (all caps, bold)

-  Names (italics) (mandatory member designations are identified: student; tech member; management/business member)

-  Heading (bold)

-  Body text (normal)

-  Certification: “By submitting this business summary, we certify that we meet all the team eligibility requirements.”

NOTE: before submitting a business summary make sure your team has already registered online.

1) Make sure that your business summary document is named in the "PESO-[your teamname here].doc" format.

2) Send an e-mail with "PESO Business Summary-your team name" in the subject heading and include your business summary document as an email attachment to: pesosecretariat@gmail.com
