On Tuesday, June 4, the Physics Department celebrated its graduating seniors with a festive dinner at the MIT Faculty Club.  Annual awards recognizing students for individual achievements in research, scholarship, and service are announced at the Senior Dinner, and students who have been selected for membership in Phi Beta Kappa and/or in Sigma Pi Sigma, the honor society for physics students, are also acknowledged.

One of the highlights of this year’s dinner was the inauguration of an award given by The Order of the Lepton, a group of alumni and friends who have provided gifts to create an annual award for a graduating senior who “best exemplifies the spirit and character of MIT’s Physics students.”  Students were asked to nominate their peers for this award, and the winner was senior Rudy Tanin, who has worked tirelessly to build community within the Physics Common Room.
