1. Overview
As the title suggests, this Division spans a broad range of activities in physics, including atomic physics, optics, condensed matter experiment and theory, biophysics experiment and theory, and plasma physics. Approximately 50% of the graduate students in our department conduct research in this Division. There is a long tradition of close interaction between experimentalists and theorists in various areas. Furthermore, exciting overlaps are emerging between different fields, a prime example being the study of collective behavior of ultra cold atoms and the interest in strongly correlated materials by condensed matter physicists. More detailed descriptions of the activities of different areas are given within the pages linked below.
