Determination of trace impurities in spectroscopically pure silicon dioxide:
Large amounts of silicon dioxide are added to geological samples with low trace elements, such as quartz feldspar and olivine, the trace element contents of the silicon dioxide are significant contaminant. Rare earth element impurities at the level of 1 to 100 ppb were determined with about 10% to 30% error.
