ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Rigor + Engagement
Academic programs are structured to help you master existing theory and methods and develop your capacity to design and conduct original research. Most subjects are taught through seminars and projects, so you emerge from early coursework as a junior colleague of your professors. To support your studies, we dedicate considerable resources to new initiatives like Producing the Innovation Economy, the Just Supply Chain Project, and the MIT Political Experiments Research Lab (PERL), where innovative research collaborations span a variety of fields.
Across the department, we define ourselves less by methodology and subfield and more by the societal challenges that interest us. Our shared vision is to provide theoretical insights and real-world analyses that help create more effective policies and promote a more just and equitable world.
