Nicholas Martin is a PhD candidate in Political Science at MIT specializing in comparative political economy with a particular focus on China and Germany. His interests include business-government relations, varieties of capitalism, economic development, and the politics of energy-sector reforms. He is currently working on a dissertation project on the role of state ownership in the environmental and technological upgrading of China's coal and electricity sectors. He has been supported by various organizations, including the Carroll Wilson Foundation, the MIT Energy Initiative, and the German National Academic Foundation.
