Christopher Lebron

Christopher J. Lebron is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science, with a focus in Political Theory. His general interests are in issues of social justice, and political theory methodology. His dissertation, Power, Race, History, and Justice in America, offers a framework for a theory of justice that posits the necessity of the social bases for self-respect as central for disadvantaged groups, particularly minorities, in America. The dissertation simultaneously argues that to make the argument coherent, we must look more broadly at the dynamic between history and the workings of power through our institutions and the way this dynamic shapes our social fabric by embedding and perpetuating beliefs which undermine the integrity of a just liberal democracy. Other recent work has sought to positively put to work the thought of Foucault and Heidegger in engaging contemporary debates in liberal thought. Chris graduated with honors from Baruch College-City University of New York in 2004 with a BA in Political Science and Philosophy. He is currently a fellow in residence at University of Virginia’s Miller Center.
