Joshua Itzkowitz Shifrinson

Joshua Shifrinson is a doctoral student studying international security and comparative politics and an affiliate of the MIT Security Studies Program.  At present, his research focuses on civil-military relations, the sources of grand strategy, the use of force in statecraft, and Middle East regional security.  Ongoing projects include an analysis of how differences in the nature of autocratic regimes affect foreign policy and an evaluation of changing dimensions of American civil-military relations.

Shifrinson is a summa cum laude graduate of Brandeis University with a B.A. in Politics (High Honors) and History.  A member of Phi Beta Kappa, he previously worked with the Crown Center for Middle East Studies, and interned with the Henry L. Stimson Center, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and National Defense University.
